On May 24th, Beba Energy (www.beba-energy.co.uk) carried out their first EMMA retro-fit install for one of their existing solar PV customers. Beba Energy’s electrician was accompanied by a Cool Power Products engineer who oversaw the installation and provided one-to-one training. We offer this hands-on service to all our resellers for their first EMMA installation.
In this case, the EMMA was being retro-fitted to an existing 3.7 kW solar PV array. As is often the case with quality solar PV installations in the UK and Ireland, the array was exceeding expectations. Although rated at 3.7 kW it regularly produces more power than this: 3.85 kW on the day we visited to install EMMA.
Once the installation of EMMA was complete we tested it as per our normal installation procedure and checklists. Our aim was to confirm that EMMA was sending any electricity surplus to immediate household needs to the immersion heater instead of letting it get exported to the grid (a simple explanation of How EMMA Works is linked below).
We did this by monitoring, in realtime, the live output of the PV array (A) and the household’s demand for electricity (B). By subtracting B from A, we could easily see how much surplus electricity was being generated by the solar array (A-B=C). We then checked that the amount of power being sent to the immersion heater was the same as C, which it was.
This install was a typical retro-fit installation for a 3.7 kW solar photovoltaic array and a standard 150 litre hot water cylinder with a 3 kW immersion heater.
While the manner and precision with which the install was carried out by Beba was perfect it was equalled by how well they understood the product and could convey this to the customer. This was evident from the feedback of the customer who was able to relate in detail how EMMA works and how it would save and earn them money.
We aim to support all our resellers in such a way – so that they can perform to the same high standards and deliver a quality and informative service to their customers. The unit used for this install was an EMMA SP15 -a very popular addition to most 3 – 4 kW solar PV installs in the UK and Ireland.
